I was left hours without any form of pain relief got to the point where I was sobbing in pain before they even gave me Panadol I was left sitting in a bed for about half an hour before my mum who happens to be a nurse undid my iv so I could use the bathroom a nurse then came in a had a go at her because she is unqualified to use any medical equipment or to even understand what they do here if that wasnt enough the disrespect continued essentially to my pain levels my mum would ask for pain relief the nurse would leave and then never return until finally someone came with some oxy 11 hrs after the doctor first said I needed it and signed for it. The cramped, cold and loud conditions on top of the disrespect that was sent our way until my mum told them she was a nurse and has been for 38 years if you can go to another hospital I would highly recommend
Today I read a news of a baby died from hunger in America 12 hours after being discharged from the hospital. Because of not giving formula milk. Three years ago mine was born weighed 3.8kg and after 3 days, on the discharge day, he was weighed 2.6kg. As a mum, feeding was my duty. But after caserean, pain, constipation, trying hard to pump out the milk, no sleep, why couldn't you just weigh him because he's crying and arching his back backwards abnormally to check if he's OK? Also because this hospital is a breast feeding hospital, no formula was given. This rating is for the postnatal ward midwives.
Great place with lovely accommodating and competent staff for the most part, so so facilities but felt very at home while I was admitted and had excellent care. I was a outerstate patient, having to travel 6 hours every four weeks or so for a little over 7 months. The staff always made it possible to arrange all my appointments for the one day to make traveling easier and save leave for my husband. I was under Maternal Fetal Medicine care for my pregnancy. The midwives and obstetricians were very kind, compassionate, competent and informative. They understood and took into consideration our needs and desires. They answered all the dumb questions my husband had with a smile, and took their job very seriously but with light hearts. Womens Assement was wonderful for seeing me twice a week for a couple weeks leading up to my daughters birth. Even in an emergency situation they were kind and comforting. I was admitted to the Antenatal Ward a week before birth. The staff and widwives were lovely, making me feel at home as none of us had any idea how long Id be there. I was even able to sneak off into the city to feel human and do some shopping. They all admired my positive admired my positive attitude while facing a difficult situation but truthfully they were very helpful coatching me through this time.I was given the rare opportunity to chose between an elective caesarean or being induced because both baby and I were in a risky situation. I was well informed, all my questions were answered and I was lucky enough to be given a couple days before my decision had to be made. I didnt feel pressured to pick one over the other.Postnatal was where I had the most trouble besides the parking. The Postnatal Ward has very cramped rooms, is at times very busy and midwives are in short supply and they know it. They did their very best with all they had. Despite this I still had an positive experience, the comforted me when I experienced nightmares and cared for my daughter when I couldnt. I had one terrible midwife during my stay who left me feeling like a complete failure and unheard, trying to push me out the door. But the army of positive midwives really made up for it, making sure my concerns were addressed, letting me stay an extra night to get ready for the drive home.My daughter spent three nights in SCBU, the staff there were awesome. Caring for some fairly sick and early babies, they had such positive attitudes which helped me. They completely understood my desire to breastfeed my baby and would call me every time she was due for a feed, and didnt judge when I was unable to come down. They made sure I was fed and well rested even though I wasnt technically in their care.We were also very fortunate that my pregnancy even though it was high risk and uncomfortable wasnt left to become more complicated. We are very fortunate to have a healthy baby after all our grief and they my shape my opinion on my experience at this hospital. Overall I had a great experience with a peppering of bad. The parking isnt great, some of the rooms were cramped, and some of the wait times were long; but all those things were out of control of the staff and the staff did all that they could to make my family comfortable. It might have been nice if there was some more accomodation for those who have to travel a far way for care.
The emergency department not too bad if you dont have a fear of children or find crying/talking children too irritating. A nice touch is they now have a phone charging unit you can code and lock your phone in when your battery runs short from the endless sudoku you will find yourself playing. Only thing that could be improved is if attending a Sunday afternoon there should be some sort of public announcement warning parents that the two coffee shops on the emergency level floor both close at 3pm. After this time you are required to travel up to the cafe on higher levels or resort to vending machine caffeine fixes.
Horrible people, was nasty and yelling at you. They would roll their eyes at my pregnant sister because she was in pain. They would leave the room when THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO!!!! Eg: they left the room in the middle of my sister giving birth. The doctor who was delivering my sisters baby was rude, shes drop things and had the room a mess while every other midwives we had kept the place tidy. Although they werent nice. Throughout the whole experience we only had ONE NICE MIDWIFE (who was a student) out of 5 Id say. Horrible people working there. Dont know what theyre doing and they talk bad about the patients and laugh at them in pain. Oh and might I say, the wait time was horrible. Had to wait 2 days for them when we got told it wouldnt take longer Than a few hours. DONT GO HERE!!!!!
